  • How much does a fence built by Dream Home Fencing cost?
  • Most Dream Home Fencing projects are quoted between $28.00 per linear foot of fence built and $38.00 per linear foot of fence built. Design considerations, the types of fence/gate hardware used factors into the end price. Dream Home Fencing will be happy to customize a quote for your own property and needs. Feel free to contact us to arrange for us to visit your home for a quote.

  • Does Dream Home Fencing sell or install panel fencing?
  • No. Dream Home Fencing is a custom cedar fence designer and installer. Pre-built panel fencing, sold by most lumber and home improvement stores, is often made with lesser quality wood and hardware. In most cases, the cost of a customized cedar fence is the same price of someone that will pay for pre-built fencing panels as well as the cost of the installation.

  • Can Dream Home Fencing remove my old fence before building a new fence?
  • Yes we can. Tearing down and removing an existing fence is part of our service to prepare to build a new customized cedar fence. The time to tear down the fence, the costs to transport the old fencing and to dispose of the fence with all environmental fees inclusive to disposal is easily quoted at the time we talk about building a new fence. Dream Home Fencing WILL NOT use existing fence materials to build into any new fence we install on your property.

  • Can Dream Home Fencing repair my existing fence?
  • No. Dream Home Fencing does not repair any fences that it did not originally build. Dream Home Fencing is more than willing to discuss tearing down and build a better more attractive fence instead of repairing parts of your existing fence.

  • How deep to you set the fence posts?
  • We set our posts a minimum of 36 inches deep. This ensures that your fence does not move of heave due to winter and spring frost and fall condition and to make sure your fence remains straight and stable in the ground for years to come. 36" is slightly deeper than the requirement of most home insurers.

  • What size posts do you use?
  • We prefer to use 4x4 true dimensional lumber, which creates a bolder and more stable fence. The traditional 4x4 (approx 3.5" x 3.5" true) is available on request.

  • Do you have a warranty and what does it cover?
  • Dream Home Fencing offers a 2 year warranty on the fences it builds. This warranty is for repairs and replacements against any defects in workmanship such as gapping in between boards, posts tilting, framing coming apart, gates sagging. Feel free to contact us for more information.

  • What is the life expectancy of a fence?
  • You can expect a fence built by Dream Home Fencing to fence to last on average 15 years. If the fence is properly maintained it can last even longer.

  • How do I maintain my fence?
  • The best way to maintain a newly built cedar fence starts from the initial staining of the fence after it is built and it should receive a new stain coat every 4-5 years. Washing the fence every year using a solution of mild laundry soap and water with a foam brush then rinsing with a regular garden hose also helps in keeping the fence keep it's new look. Washing a fence with a power washer is not recommended because the power of water stream cleans off the stain that protects the fence. It should receive a new coat of stain every 5 years.

  • How tall can my fence be?
  • In most cities and local municipalities, a back yard and side yard fence is allowed to be 6 feet high, the front yard fencing facing the street can only be 4 feet high. There is special allowances for fences enclosing areas that have pools, decks and hot tubs.

  • Do I need a building permit to build or replace a fence?
  • In most cities and local municipalities, you do not need to get a building permit for a regular fence build. If you are considering building a fence with design features such as stone columns or lighting that requires hydro to power then yes, permits are required. Dream Home Fencing will advice and help you with these situation if you are considering a unique fence. Please feel free to contact us and ask.

  • My neighbors fence wobbles and they had it installed just last year. Is this common
    with cedar fences?
  • A well built cedar fence will have sturdy fence posts that are set into the ground deep enough with enough concrete around the post will not wobble or move easily. Dream Home Fencing pays particular attention to building customized cedar fences that will not move or wobble.

  • Can I build a fence on a retaining wall or bedrock?
  • Yes you can. Dream Home Fencing uses special Quake Brackets (manufactured in Vancouver, BC) to set the fence posts into any retaining wall or bedrock. These brackets are set with Hilti anchors, hammer drilled into the wall or the stone. Quake brackets are made to sleeve the post 8" up the fence post and is secured with 2 3/8" galvanized lag bolts. These brackets and posts allow for much more lateral stability over time, even along more windy wall faces.

  • Do you build custom gates?
